Jem the Slipper , Great Dowards Hill, Symonds Yat. (General)
Jem the Slipper was a hermit who lived in a cave on or near Great Doward, Symonds Yat - several years either side of c1860. Does any know more about him, which cave did he live in. What happened to him and what was his real name. I have looked at the censuses with a view to identifying him but found no one who fits the bill. I have been told that their is some information on him in a local pub, which one? Thanks for any help.

Ganarew Herefordshire - 1861 "District 7" includes the Little Doward area - no suspect there !
1861 "District 6" part of Whitchurch - again no suspect
King Arthur Cave is just a few miles north of Monmouth, at the bottom of the
southeast slope of the Little Doward Hill. It is the home of one of the many King Arthur
cave legends.

Thanks terry2424, I will try the Forest Review. Jem the Slipper was supposed to live near King Arthurs Cave, but that one has been ruled out. Ajp71
