Richard James 1811 - 1882 (General)
My great grandfather Richard James married Ann Evans on May 13th 1837 Minister J.J. Frobisher Parish - Chapel,Newland. Register reference P227 in 1/11. The grooms father surname and forenames are not shown on the FOD transcript of the marriage. Unfortunately the marriage took place approximately two months prior to when a marriage certificate could be obtained from GRO. I have also failed to find a transcript for his birth in 1811 to ascertain who were his father and mother, which is the information I am seeking. Can anyone please advise where else I may be able to search for his parents?

you may wish to consider his "age" and if one of the Richard James' from Coleford in 1806/07 may be him. It is not unusual for ages declared in the Census to be inaccurate - some declare themselves older because they have married or are working; others younger perhaps because they have a young wife etc !
A process of elimination by following these "others" may help.

Richard JAMES Coleford 1811 - 1882 - prior Thread
Slowhands, Many thanks for your very prompt replies to my enquiries. I have traced this Richard James and his family down to George James my late father by way of the 1841 1851,and 1861 census, all of whom lived in Coalway Road Coleford until he died in 1882 and his wife in 1886. I hold photo copies of the original Register of Graves of both which I visited in Coleford Cemetry during September 2008. I have therefore rejected any other Richard James born 5 years either side of 1811 born in The Forest of Dean. I would mention that I have found a number of unconfirmed possibles, probables, and red herrings in my long surchases for his parents. It seems that I have hit a brick wall !! however I will keep trying and thank you for your courteous respnses.

... then the next question is...
Is there a history / tradition of non-conformity in the family ?
If so tracking a baptism will either be more challenging, if indeed the ceremony of baptism was followed :-), or, impossible
