I have a tapestry worked by my grandmother 140 years ago (a living piece of history) most of which is easily decipherable, with the letters of the alphabet, numerals 1 to 9 and in verse "I am the rose of sharron and the life of the valley". In capitals and strong colours.
Ellen Hale aged 13 years.
Forest Church Jubilee Sat. July 8 1868.
At that time she was living at Lane End, West Dean, why, and how, she was able to execute this work at 13 years of age, and at that period of time is a mystery.
Does anyone have any information of the Forest Church Jubilee which this tapestry celebrates? please.

Drybrook HOLY TRINITY at Harrow Hill, was consecrated in 1817 also known locally as the Forest Church

Its a piece of School work by Ellen.
To mark the Golden Jubilee of P. M. Procter's school and chapel at Berry Hill (fn. 4)
W. H. Taylor, minister of Christ Church, (fn. 5) built a National school for the Lane End
district, east of Coleford. The district had a day school in a Baptist chapel at Mitcheldean
Lane End in 1851 (fn. 6) and one or two small dame schools in 1862.
Known as the Forest Church Jubilee school, the National school with its adjacent schoolhouse
was at Broadwell Lane End and was paid for by subscriptions and grants. It opened in 1864
with 70 pupils, including infants, and was enlarged by Taylor several times. (fn. 7)

The Ellen you highlighted in the 1861 census is the correct Ellen for my grandmother

As you advised to mark the Golden Jubilee of P.M.Proctor's school and chapel at Berry Hill, W.H.Taylor minister of Christchurch in 1864 opened the National School at Broadwell Lane End, known as The Forest Church Jubilee School.
I now realise Ellen Hale worked the controversial tapestry to mark the Golden Jubilee of P.M.Proctors school and chapel at Berry Hill. In the absence of the word school I had mistakenly associated the tapesty with The Forest Church, Drybrook whose Golden Jubilee date appeared to coincide with the tapestry dates.
I had failed over the past three years to make any other connection to The Forest Church.
Ellen Hale was baptised in 1867 (born 1852) and married my grandfather James James in 1874, both events being solemnised by W.H.Taylor in Christchurch (confirmation by a copy of the marriage certificate).
The close proximity of their homes before marriage at Barn Hill Pit and Coalway Road help to confirm that you pointed me, in just twenty four hours,the correct direction.
