James LAYTON born in Pauntley 1823 (General)
I have been searching for some time for the parents of James Layton. I have sought help on the forum previously with no luck, but am now following another lead. I have not been able to locate a baptism record for James, but his marriage certificate shows his father as Thomas Layton, a labourer.
Recently I discovered in the 1841 census a listing for a Thomas Layton, age 50, living with his mother Susan and two sons Thomas circa 1821, and Henry circa 1826 in Mathon. I had previously discounted this person, but then I realised that Mathon was quite close to Ledbury, where James, at 18, was working on a farm as an agricultural labourer.
Unfortunately the 1841 census gives little information, and I can't seem to find either Thomas, Thomas jnr or Henry on a later census. Where did they go? Did they migrate? Does anyone have any record of these people amongst their families.
I would be grateful for any information.

Have you tried 'Leighton', as this seems to be the later spelling for the family - several branches have lived in the parish until fairly recently.
