HI Slowhannds
Many thanks again for your help but I dont think she`s the one. I should have explained what I was trying to do in asking for that census entry. In 1851 there was a Henry JONES 16 living at lydbrook with his mother Elizabeth JONES
and I was trying to trace them in 1861 because the Henry I think was mine was by then married to a Mary HARRIS. So, I thought that I could eliminate that Henry from my search if Elizabeth and Henry were still together in 1861
You were kind enough to send me that 1851 entry
2444 0344 022 Lydbrook JONES Elizabeth HD U 44 Pauper Labouring womanGLS Newland
2444 0344 022 Lydbrook JONES Henry SO U 16 Forge Man Tin Works GLS E.Bicknor
The only point against this being "my" Henry is his occupation as all the other records show him as being a collier
Thanks again and apologies to everyone for burdening you once again with the Henry JONES problem

A message from Australia. My grandfather was a George Henry Jones who became a Free Miner in 1902 aged 36 years whilst living at Parkend. He later married Alice Elizabeth Jones and lived at Boxbush Road, Coleford. In 1929 he became the owner of the Bixslade Mine.

I have been unable to find out much about my forest ancestors and I was wondering if your Henry Jones who you say was a collier could have been the father or uncle of my grandfather George Henry Jones. I know it was common in those days for a man's son to take one of his father's christian names. I am always hoping to make a connection somewhere.

Hi Slowhands
Thanks again for your help. It looks as though I can eliminate this Henry from my search as he was listed as married to Mary JONES(nee HARRIS) in the 61 census. That beingsaid,I have no definite proof that the one married to Mary was the right one. Its just that by 71 Mary seems to have gone back to live with her father and Henry was with Hannah GUNDY ,she being his housekeeper. Hannah was the mother of a Jane JONES who later married my great grandfather Benjamin POWELL.. Henry`s name isnt on Jane`s birth certificate(no father recorded)but Henry JONES is given as the bride`s father on her marriage certificate
thanks again
Sylvia
