A pencil drawing on tinted paper dated Xmas 1876 signed by my grandfather
Frederick Probert when he was 15. He was living with his family at Osbaston
Monmouth but his father Henry Probert was born ca 1820 Lydbrook, There is no
railway at Osbaston. Could this drawing be of the Priory at Lydbrook?

i'm going to be controversial !

the bridge and the hill look like the viaduct from Mitchel Troy to Wyesham , just south of Monmouth, with Penalt woods on the hillside.

There is a photo on line of the Priory.Go to:
Old Photos or the FOD Sun Green Web pages'
Lydbrook and District.
Lower Lydbrook.
The Viaduct.
4 Photos. View from the Viaduct.

There'a car on the road. About an inch above it the road curves to the left. There's a rather indistinct grey building there. That is the Old Priory.

Dear Judith

I have now added the will of Thomas Probert to this sight which was kindly transcribed by the FOD, they continue to be very supportive and inspirational.

You will clearly see from the will that Thomas Probert had a farm in stowfield, which is near the left hand side of the arches at Lydbrook and property in Lydbrook itself including the Mill.

If you also visit English Bicknor you will see a large tomb in the grave yard.

Forgot to mention Proberts' lane in Lydbrook which is still there and Proberts barn which is now demolished.
