Charles Baghurst & Hannah Davis at Blakeney (General)
by Bobaus, Sunday, March 08, 2009, 23:05 (5812 days ago)
Thanks to this marvellous site,I've been able to find Charles' partner. He and Hannah Davis were married at Awre in 1826 & had one child,Frances in 1827.
As they were married 'with the Consent of Parents',I assume that they were minors.
However, try as I may I cannot find Charles' parents. The only Charles Baghurst that I can find was Baptised at Blakeney in 1822.
Could anyone help, please? Also,is anyone else looking at this line?
Bob

As they were married 'with the Consent of Parents',I assume that they were minors.
I have a marriage in 1833 by J H Malpas at Awre where it states 'with the Consent of Parents'. The man was born 1791, his father died 1816 and his mother 1808. The woman was born 1787. I wouldn't call this pair minors!
Before Hardwicke's Marriage Act of 1753 there was no lower legal age of marriage, except during the 1650s when it was sixteen for 'men' and fourteen for 'women'. In 1753 it was fixed at fourteen for men and twelve for women, and remained at those ages until the Age of Marriage Act in 1929, which raised it to sixteen for both.

I've been looking at the FOD and census and wonder whether the spelling BAGGUS/BAGGUST belongs to your family
On the 1841 census for Awre, Fanny BAGGUS is aged 14 and at the home of James TEAGUE and family.
On this site
George BAGGAS married Elizabeth MARSHALL 18.6.1800 -

Charles BAGGUST age 30 was buried in Awre 1.4.1828 - (could be Hannah's first husband) which would make him c 1798

Looking at the FOD site - and census (just to confuse things)
Hannah BAGHURST married James TEAGUE in Awre 19.12.1832
1841 Census for Blakeney
James TEAGUE age 50 - Ag Lab
Anna - 49
Thomas - 8
James - 6
Fanny BAGGUS - age 14 - (again this could be Charles and Hannah's daughter)
On the 1851 census for Blakeney
James TEAGUE - 62
Hannah - 46 born Awre
Thomas - 17
Martha - 6
Hope this helps
