Duffield baptism 1755 Flaxley (General)

Hi

Please could anyone tell me if the baptismal record for the child listed as Duffield DUFFIELD on 27 April 1755 at Flaxley (parents - Charles and Mary Duffield) states whether the child was a son or a daughter?

There appears to be no record of a burial or marriage related to the name Duffield Duffield and I am wondering if the first name "Duffield' is an error. The reason for my query is that I am searching for the baptism of Abigail Duffield at around this time and wonder if this entry could be her. Abigail Duffield married Abraham Yemm in 1785 at Walford and two of their children were later baptised at Flaxley.

Thanks very much

Hello Tamarclare

As an avid researcher of DUFFIELD, for over 20 years, I can tell you that it definitely says "son of" in the records at Glos Rec. Office.
However, He is son of Charles DUFFIELD and Mary SEVILLE(not necessarily DUFFIELD)who seems to be his new lady friend after his first wife's death. Charles's first wife (another Mary) had died in 1753. No more info on Duffield DUFFIELD do I have though. Neither do I have an Abigail DUFFIELD of the possible age to be Abraham YEMM's wife in my database. If you ever come across one I would be grateful if you would let me know.
Bye

Thanks very much for your helpful reply about Duffield and his parents.

I think I may now have found two of Abigail Duffield's sisters but I cannot find their baptisms either.

When Abigail Duffield married Abraham Yemm at Walford in 1785, one of the witnesses was Ann Woor. Ann Woore (nee Duffield) was the wife of Thomas Woore and they married at Walford in 1781. One of the witnesses to Ann's marriage was Mary Overton and I then found a marriage for Mary Duffield to William Overton at Walford in 1779 (Ann Duffield was one of the witnesses).

Do either Mary or Ann Duffield appear on your database? I also noticed that there was a Charles and Abigail Duffield who had two of their children baptised at Walford in the early 1700's so I wondered if there was a connection there also. Abigail was buried at Flaxley in 1742. Interestingly the son baptised at Walford in 1717 was called Charles so I am wondering if he might be the Charles you mentioned who was the father of Duffield since there seems to be a Flaxley connection.

Hi Tamarclare
Sorry, I have a few busy days and will need to look up a few things for you.
I have the marriage of Abe YEMM and Ab but can't find a death for Ab so far. That may give her age. Maybe you have found it??

There is an Abigail DAVIL bapt. 25 Oct 1738 in Ross on Wye, Kyrle Street Independent dau of Arthur DAVIL and Ann but this would make her about 47 at marriage and not suitable for many children.

Will be back in touch very soon.
Bye

Hi

Thanks very much for your reply. Abraham Yemm died in 1815 and Abigail then married John Voice/Voyce at Walford in 1819. Abigail died in 1848 and her age at burial is given as 79 (residence Lydbrook, burial Ruardean). If that age is correct, it gives Abigail a DOB c1769 and means she was about 16 when she married Abraham Yemm. I have searched many times for Abigail on the 1841 census without success.

Ann Woor/Whore (nee Duffield) seems to have died in 1835 (residence Lydbrook, burial English Bicknor) but no age is given. Mary Overton ((nee Duffield) died in 1817 (residence and burial Ruardean) and her age is given as 73 which gives her a DOB c1744.
