Meek Family Tree (General)

For Kristeen, Brian and Colin, all enquiring about George Meek.
Can confirm that George Meek, born 1801 is definitely the 9th child of Joseph (1749) and Ann Harris (1753).
George's brother, Joseph (1782), was the second child. He married Hannah Cook (1792) in May 1809. It was their seventh child, Thomas, who was christened in Drybrook Parish Church on the 14th. Jan, 1821 (Sorry - have no details of his marriage). But - their fourth child, Joseph (1814) married Sarah White in Ruardean Parish Church in 1841, and their seventh son, George, was born in 1853, again, no details of marriage. But.... I have an entry for George (maybe the son?) who married Elizabeth Barnett in 1896 - known children were: Lily (1897); Frank (1899) and Elsie (1900).
Thanks, Colin, for info regarding George (1714), son of John Meek and Clare - fairly sure he fits in between James (1711) and Francis (1716), but from there you probably have a different branch of the tree, as the other brothers all called their sons Joseph - confusing or what???? As you have noticed, my branch stems from Joseph (1749) and Ann Harris, but although we have several Thomases in the tree, I can't find the Thomas (1758).
I would be interested to know how your tree 'spreads', Colin - is it just co-incidence that I have a Solomon Thomas (1891) and also a Solomon Colin (1899) - they were cousins.
Does this help any of you? The biggest stumbling block is the 4 Josephs who were born between 1746 and 1750. My ancestor was Joseph (1749) - of the other three one must be the father of Joseph who married ANNA BALDWIN in 1801. Not on my tree, but the confusion has caused many sleepless nights!! Good hunting. Marion.

Yes I put George (1714) between James (1711) and Francis (1717) too. After George my line goes: Thomas (1758), Thomas (1785), Lucy (1820) who for good measure married another Thomas Meek (possibly born 1820) after that: James (1848) and my grandmother Alice (1880). Alice married George Williams so the Meek name stopped there as far as my line is concerned and my mother Mary married and moved away from the Forest.
Thomas (1758) had 8 siblings that I know of, Lucy had 7, James 5 and Alice had 7 so plenty of opportunity for the tree to spread and overlap there!

I'm sure that Thomas (1820) whose father may also have been Thomas fits into some other Meek lines somewhere but I haven't figured out any links (yet!)

Hi, Colin, Many thanks for recent info re: George (1714). Sorry I was barking up the wrong tree in trying to prove that George Meek (1802) was the same one as the George you were seeking - but all the meeks had large families and all seemed to choose the same christian names, so it is inevitable that there is confusion!
Have just noticed that you and other people are making enqiries about John Meek (1660), who married Elenor. Have no information except that John Meek died in 1695.
I have found the Gloucester Archive a very useful source of information, but, unfortunately, living in Yorkshire, I only manage to get there once per year.
This is pure curiosity, but was your grandfather the George Williams of Ruardean Hill, who was a pillar of the Baptist Church?
Best wishes, Marion.

Did George Meek and Sarah Brain have a daughter Anne Meek who married Cornelius Baldwin on November 14, 1857 ?
Anne was my great grandmother.

Hello, Speewell_Blue.
I think we have been researching the same family tree, which branches off after Joseph (1782) who married Hannah Cook.
Of their known eight children, Richard (1819) married Ann Cloudley, which is where your tree branches off. Another son, Solomon, married Frances Martin, which is where my tree continued. A few years ago, I researched both trees, but couldn't find any information about Albert Victor Leslie (1900), so it was quite exciting to discover that he is your grandfather!
I would love to know more, particularly if your father, Wilf Meek, was the cricketer who lived at Morse Road. If you would like to continue this by email, rather than further postings on the FOD site, you can contact me at [Deleted] - my husband and my email address.
With best wishes, Marion.
