the 1851 census says born Redmarley - the IGI ( user submitted entry) is also Redmarley, however :-)

Agree that the Redmarley birthplace is doubtful. Have a feeling that this was only to get accommodation in the area. It is actually Paul Davis who is living with him, his father-in-law.
Nathaniel Millard abt 1791
Nathaniel Millard was my wife`s Gtx2 Grandfather. Our research shows that the family lived in the Newent/Dymock/Redmarley area for most of the 19th century but in about 1899/1900 Albert Millard (grandfather) moved to Ashford in Kent.
William Millard (son of Nathaniel) was born in Polesworth, Warks so it maybe that is where Nathaniel originated from.
Nathaniel is shown as dying in the Inn at Redmarley do you know if this the Inn House situated next to the present Rectory in the village.
Nathaniel Millard abt 1791, Redmarley Inn ?
Hi Websper,
welcome to this great website and friendly forum !.
As this is quite an old thread, it may be worth you sending a direct email to Jennie, just click on her blue username above.
You may be interested in this prior post wrt researching Redmarley, altho it sounds like you know the village better than I do so sorry if it's old news to you.

Re your query, please am I right in assuming your info just refers to "the Inn" and no more info ?. I've checked this site's Burial PR and it doesnt mention an Inn, nor is there an Inquest, so ??.
Thanks Jeff
PS from the ever helpfull Easywell site is a suggestion there is/was only one pub of consequence in Marley village, the Rose & Crown. However it does mention Inn House, I suspect this maybe your source of info ?. I cannot give a direct link but entering "Redmarley" into the search box gets only two hits to look at.

Nathaniel Millard abt 1791
Hi Websper - great site for researching family ties isn't it. Nathaniel was my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather. His son William (one of 8) was born in Redmarley (Nathaniel having married a Redmarley girl) and William's son was born in Polesworth and as far as I can tell had 15 children. I have been trying to take the information back before Nathaniel but keep drawing a blank although there are Nathaniel Millards in the south of Gloucestershire. I have a book here on Redmarley and will check out the pubs but I am sure there must have been another watering hole in the village as the Rose and Crown is right on the edge. If you want any information about my tree, please let me have contact details and I will get back to you. Jennie

Hi Jennie
Thanks for the reply re. Nathaniel Millard. Yes we would certainly like to have a copy of your family tree. As I posted my wife (joan) we think is directly descended to Nathaniel.
her father was Alvin Amos(Millard) b 1909 Ashford Kent
Grandfather Albert Francis 1885 - 1963
Gt G`father William 1835 - 1910
Albert was the complication as he was widowed & then remarried & subsequently died in Lisekard, Cornwall.
We visited Redmarley last week while on holiday in Gloucs. I couldn`t find any headstones in the churchyard but spoke to the gentleman who lives in the Inn House, next to the Rectory. He said that the house was definitely a coaching inn back in the early 19th & possibly the 18th century. Unfortunately the "font of all village knowledge" John Hale is very seriously ill & we were advised not to visit him.
My email address is: jhwebsper@freenetname.co.uk
Yours sincerely,

Redmarley Books
Hi Jennie,

I ask as I've not yet read it but would welcome your opinions, please. Glos Libraries do stock it and I intend to read it one day. Please do post anything you find regarding old pubs in the village, thanks.
Another book about Redmarley I chanced across in the Reference section at Cinderford Library is "Redmarley War Memorial Eighty Four Years On, 1920-2004", Ref 940:465. Although more specialist it's still recommended reading, this moving & informative book describes in full the renovation & rededication of the village War Memorial. It includes detailed background text & occasionally photos about the men named on the Memorial; my interest in the village stems from an elderly aunt on my mother's side we used to visit in her lovely old cottage & smallholding. Although saddened I was also "pleased" to find a whole page devoted to my aunt's brother who died of wounds in October 1918!. I read this article before fully researching my aunt's line, so references to her two soldier brothers & sister, until then all unknown to me, was both interesting and helpful.
Unfortunately an indexing error means you will not find it in the Glos Library online catalogue by searching "Redmarley", so here's a direct link for anyone who may be interested.
