William Plaisted (born 1801 Westbury-on-Severn) (General)

by cityblue, Monday, March 16, 2009, 10:04 (5804 days ago)

I am trying to track the parents (and hopefully further back) of the above. I know he married Mary Davis in 1824 and once widowed he maaried Mary Heavens in 1862.

William Plaisted (sometimes spelt Playsted, Plaistead or Plaisters) I believe to have been the son of Thomas and Elizabeth, but have not been able to locate info about these two.

If anyone knows any further info I would be very grateful.
Many thanks
Chris

Hi Chris, Afraid can't help with the parents, Thomas & Elizabeth but believe William's sister, Esther, or Hester baptised 1809 Westbury on Severn was the 2nd wife of my ancestor, Richard Thomas. They were married 1829 and lived at Deans Hill.
After Richard died in 1856 Esther remarried to Evan Davis in 1865.
Esther died in 1878, St Johns, East Dean.
Have more information about their children if you would like to browse.
Regards
Margaret

Thomas & Elizabeth PLAISTED m 1772

Thanks for the info supplied.....unfortunately I know that this Thomas and Elizabeth were not the parents of William as this particular Thomas was buried in Newnham in 1779!

I had also found reference to Thomas Plasted who was christened in westbury in 1756....still haven't managed to find any info aboiut him ever marrying. Also he would have been in his mid 40's and into his 50's whne William and his sisters were born if this was there father - so I'm sceptical...

I shall keep searching though and your help is greatly appreciated.

William Plaisted is actually my great (x4) grandfather. I have amassed a great deal of Plaited genealogy but the link from William to the next geenration is a missing link for me!!

Hi Margaret,
Thanks for the info. I also believe that William had a sister Esther christened in 1809 in westbury - so looks like the same person.
At this time, I will decline the further info offered, as I am concentrating on the descnedents of William. I have a lot of info about the Plaisteds dating back to 12th century, but I have a missing link from William back a generation - very frustrating!!
Cheers
Chris

I have information about a Thomas Plaisted who was christened at Newnham in 1785, died in Chepstow and was buried at Caerwent in 1866. He was known to ahve married an Elizabeth - no further info located about her or when the marriage actually took place.

I thought he was a bit young to be Williams father as he would have been about 16 when william was born.

Does anyone think he could still be the father??

My husband is a descendant of William. I too had been stuck on Thomas and Elizabeth. Thanks to your thread (and slowhands) I now have her surname. The information I had (don't know how accurate) was that Thomas was born c 1760.

BTW - hubby descended from William's son, Charles. Who emigrated to NZ in 1878.

Hi Linda,

Elizabeth Thomson, was definitely not the mother of William Plaisted. Her husband, Thomas, was buried in Newnham in 1779 - 22 years before Willaim was born!!

I am hoping that Thomas born in 1756 might be the father of William, as I have a lot of family history for that Thomas - but I haven't managed to prove the link yet..

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris
Driving up the motorway to work after making that post, when I had a Homer Moment "DOH!"
Clicked who you were. Mum-in-law loved the copies of photos, as she has looked everywhere for hers and can't find them.

Of course it's not the right one - that makes William's birth 30 years after the marriage. Never looked at the date until this morning :)
Guess we just have to keep hunting.
