I was wondering if somebody could please look up the family of Tom & Bertha BOUGHTON in the 1901 census? They were married in 1891 in Drybrook. Thank you.

Having talked to Tom Boughton's grand daughter, recently, (she is 87 years old) I was told that the reason Tom ended up in the Lunatic Asylum in Gloucester was that he, with other miners, had been caught in a mining accident the year before and he had been crushed and suffered bad head injuries. She did'nt know the name of the pit.
He was moved just before he died to Westbury Hall, which was a form of workhouse/hospice I'm told.

Thanks for that information Brian, it was quite usual for this to happen with no NHS at that time.

Thomas's brother Abraham married Ada Anne Birt, niece of Sarah Birt, my wife's 3xGreat grandmother.

Regards

David
