Ellen Trigg - Westbury on Severn (General)

by Mark Hewinson @, Thursday, March 26, 2009, 02:16 (5795 days ago)

Frederick Haviland, b.1862 Tibberton, Glos., married an Ellen Trigg of Westbury on Severn, 1885 in Gloucester. Ellen is shown as born c.1858 in the relevant censuses. There seems to be two possibilities: Ellen Trigg bap 27/12/1857 Westbury on Severn, parents William & Rhoda or Ellen Trigg bap 28/2/1858 Westbury on Severn, parents Jesse & Ann. Does anyone have any info in their tree to pinpoint the correct Ellen Trigg for this marriage by any chance?
Cheers

Hello, I do not know if you are still researching Ellen Trigg.
The Ellen Trigg that I have on my Trigg family tree was the daughter of William Trigg and his wife Rhoda "nee Clutterbuck". I have Ellen born in 1857. She did not marry but had three children. First Charles Edward Trigg b.1881 then another child, no details on my tree and then thirdly Matilda who married a chap called George Trevethick.
Hope this may be of use to you, regards, Jen.

Hi Jen,
please can I suggest you try sending Mark a direct email off the forum ?. I say this as by clicking his blue username it appears he hasn't logged in since 2011, which seems odd to me as I thought such older users were logged "out" if inactive, yet his name is still displayed in blue = active ?. Anyhow, my guess is he may not see your post which would probably be a great shame.
Many thanks J

Hi Jen, Jeff and Mark if you're still there.

If it helps, of the two Ellens Trigg mentioned, I am linked to the one who was the daughter of Jesse Trigg and Ann nee Hart.

Jesse and Ann were married in the Westbury-on-Severn registration district on 23 Sep 1857, and Ellen was their eldest child. The others, in order and all born in the Westbury RD in years up to 1875, were Sarah, Thomas, Mary Ann, Jesse, Alice, David and Annie.

I do not have anything on an earlier Trigg than the elder Jesse, born c. 1834, or any Harts earlier than his wife Ann.

Of the siblings I have just listed, Mary Ann married Richard Sterry of Lydney (1859-1941) and died at Lydney on 29 Sep 1944. Richard's younger brother Henry Sterrey (spelling changed for no known reason) was my great-grandfather (1864-1926.)

I am aware of grandchildren of Richard Sterry and Mary Ann nee Trigg but am unable to describe them due to privacy conventions.

Sources: the parish records on this site, data on www.sterryworldwide.com, and asking around Lydney.

Grateful thanks to the people who have replied. I was doing some research for a colleague in South Wales and the Ellen Trigg in question is the one whose parents were Jesse and Ann (nee Hart). Confirmed via baptism record in Glos RO (bap 28/2/1858, Westbury-on-Severn). Details I have also match siblings quoted, viz. Sarah Elizabeth; Thomas; Mary; Jesse; Alice; David and Annie. Again, many thanks. Mark H.
