1911 Census - Mistakes

by janfran @, Friday, April 03, 2009, 01:39 (5787 days ago) @ m p griffiths

I have also found a lot of mistakes in the transcriptions on the 1911 census.
I reported some ie Walford was down as Watford, but the reply I had said that they wouldn't be altering it as that's what it looks like.
Nearly every entry I have looked at, has some obvious error.
I just think it will make it hard for some people who really don't know where their relatives were to find them.
It has thrown me on a coouple of occasions.
Each one I have reported so far I have been told they won't be altered!
So why do they ask you to report them?

i have no idea where they were in 1901.my grandfather was a primitive methodist mininster so i would presume that when he passed away the family would have had to leave the house with it belonging to the church.i wouldnt mind if i could find his grave but as of yet nothing.even george steet chapel has been flattened im lead to believe it was turned into a car park.maybe if i could find out who replaced him at the chapel i may be able to find his grave.

so far all "we" know is that James is your great great grandfather - which of his children is your great grandfather/mother - then we might be able to help track into 1891 /1901 / 1911

I did spot

1891 Yorkshire, Ecclesall, Bierlow, District 29 - page 38 of 41

1 Pear St West

John A HAWKINS age 19 - Insurance Clerk, born St Austell - and did wonder whether this was James A HAWKINS age 9 on the 1881 census -

Perhaps James was known as John in the family - re nicknames etc etc - the area is the same as 'Kate'

Well done !!!

This proves yet again - searching by surname (or derivatives of) is of no use, if Ancestry - hasn't looked too closely and assumed the whole household has the same surname !!! - HAWKINS is clearly visible and yet they are all transcibed as SIMS.
