Esau HARRIS born Coleford c1775 (General)
by lupine, Thursday, April 09, 2009, 03:53 (5781 days ago)
Hi, I'm looking for information on Esau Harris born in Coleford around 1775.
He was married to Ann, they had two children as far as I'm aware, Esau and Alice.
I believe his mothers name may have been Mary but I'm trying to find out details of his father mainly. Am also trying to find out exact birth place and place of burial if possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, his son Esau was my g-g-g-grandad...I've already got most of the census information for him and his family so its mainly pre-1800 that I'm looking for.

I should have added - Elizabeth's christening is on the FOD Parish Records - and you'll see Mary HUGHES was a Widow

Base Child of Mary HARRIS 1775

Hi,
My g-g-g-g-grandad Esau Harris was born in Awre 1775.
Can anyone clear up the memoranda notes? Number one says "son of" and number two "base child"
Am I right in thinking base child means illegitimate? If so, this confuses me as I have had paternal DNA testing done and I have a almost perfect match with another Harris and who can trace his paternal line back to the 1500's.
Finally, can anyone give me advice on where to go from here? I'm struggling to find any further information on Mary but mainly, is there anything I can do to find out who the father of Esau was or is this a virtually impossible task with him not being on the baptism record?
Thanks.

Base Child of Mary HARRIS 1775

"son of" and "base child" are common notations in parish records and would be correct.
Yes, base child and illegitimate do have the same meaning.
