John FRENCH 1852 Stanley (General)

Thanks for you input. I have been down the 1871 road, or cul-de-sac, before. The 1871 record for John FRENCH certainly puts him in the right area of Cinderford to be classified as Flaxley Meend. There is a marriage record for a James HODGES in the Stroud Reg. District for 1866 to probably, using "marriage match", Ellen FRENCH. So I am guessing John FRENCH, the lodger, is Ellen HODGES' brother, which seems feasible. I also found a Helen FRENCH in the 1861 census aged 14, so born abt. 1846/7, with a brother John aged 9, so born abt. 1852, in the Stroud general area, (have not got the exact location to hand) but their father was John and not Charles. If I could have found John and Eliza FRENCH, as a married couple, in the 1881 census I would not have such a problem.
