Richard Elton (General)
by lavinia hemingway, Thursday, May 28, 2009, 01:23 (5732 days ago)
I am a new member and I am looking for any connection to my ELTON family who lived in Trevethin. Richard Elton was born c.1796 Trevethin and married to Sarah Jones c.1808 Trevetihn. I am hoping there may be other Elton's who were living in the Forest of Dean who may have been related to Richard as I can't get back any further than this.

Do you have any evidence to support this Hope ?
Why might their be a connection ?

I wonder if this is him? I couldn't find a christening in Trevethin on IGI.

I would like to think that was right Chris and I appreciate you sending it to me, but I have been on Ancestry.co.uk in the past and there is a record of him and his family which says that he was born in Trevethin where he lived with his family and was an Iron Miner.
As I can't seem to get any further back I thought that there may have been a possibility that his parents could have come from a different part of Wales, but as I don't have any names for them I will probably never find out.

After other inofrmation I have received on the subject of Richard Elton it's looking as though the baptism record you sent to me is right. I will have to do a bit more investigating before I am definatley sure, so thank you very much.

The 1841 gives a possibility that the Richard 1797 from Littledean is yours, but it needs further work to "claim" him :-) I cannot find the Littledean Richard in other census data, he may have died before 1841.

That's the one alright, his youngest daughter Margaret was my gr, grandmother. Do you think that he could possibly have not been born in Trevethin? I know that sometimes the census it not always correct.

Richard ELTON / Sarah JONES marriage 1823 Panteg
by lavinia hemingway, Friday, May 29, 2009, 04:34 (5731 days ago) @ slowhands
I have seen this marriage of Richard ALTON to Sarah Jones before and I think it is a spelling error and that it is Richard ELTON not ALTON. I was looking at something else not long ago as well that said HELTON which I am sure is meant to be ELTON.
I think you could well be right about the marriage witness George Walden,or Waldin, everything seems to fit in. Now I am wondering if the other witness Elizabeth Jones could have been the mother or sister of Sarah Jones.

Thank you for sending this, you have the right family. I am beginning to think that Richard was not born in Trevethin as I thought as it seems there was a Richard Elton born in Littledean with parents William Elton and Ann Flaxley as someone has kindly sent me this information along with 8 siblings. I just have to find a way of proving that this is right. He was living in Trevethin and working as an Iron Miner but could easily have been born in Littledean.

All I know about Sarah Jones is that she was born in Trevethin so he could be related to her. As for Caroline Elton, I have her married to:
1. Daniel James Money b.1826 London, m.1869 Pontypool with children as follows:
Edwin Augustus Money b.1851 Sowhill, Trevethin
Sarah Sophia Money b.1853 Limerick, Ireland
2. William Griffiths b.1824 Kemey's Commander, Cwwmbran
Thomas Griffiths b.1857
Richard Griffiths b.1858
John Griffiths c.1858
Joseph Griffiths c.1860
Samuel Griffiths b.1861
Caroline Maud Griffiths b.1873 - all born in Panteg
I know this is right as I have a few contacts related to the Elton family who have the same husbands for her but none of my shared contacts have managed to go further back than Richard Elton and Sarah Jones.
Thank you for all your help and everyone else who have contacted me today, I'm sure I will get to the bottom of it eventually. I never expected to get such a big response so soon.
