I'm looking for any information regarding the Mapps/Maps/Map family predating the marriage of James Maps and Mary Morgan in Woolaston in 1778.

His residence on marriage is Woolaston but no baptisms or marriages seem to exist in Woolaston or the Forest of Dean before this date for variations of the above surname.

I am a direct descendant through my mother Joyce Mapps and this is one of my brick walls

We have spoken on Genes reunited and I am a direct descendant via Florence Mapps.

I have also got to a brick wall where you have too so would be great to find out some more.

I have that James Mapps and Mary Morgan were married in Woolaston in August 1778.

I don't think anyone has traced where this James Map(p)s was baptised. With most of the Forest of Dean records now transcribed, it looks likely that the family probably originated in Worcestershire, Warwickshire or the borders where there are some baptisms under the Mab name. But much more research will need to be done.
