George Knight & Sarah Pritchard of East/Little Dean (General)
Hi,
I am looking for information about these two, they are my G.G.G.Grandparents.
They were married on 10th May 1827 @ Littledean Chapel.
I believe they had 9 (?) children:
George 1829
Elizabeth Pritchard 1831
Sarah 1833
William 1835
Mary 1838
Thomas 1840
Richard 1842
Michael 1845
Emma 1850
The 2nd, 3rd and 4th children's baptism details are on this website, but not the rest I think ?
I searched but couldn't find them, but if they are there somewhere my apologies.
Also I can't be sure that all these children are those of the above George & Sarah ?
Does anyone have this family in their tree please.
Thank you,
mxb

Thanks for your reply slowhands.
Actually I had already found those 2 censuses and some others.
For example on the 1861 Census Sarah and children are living in Aspul, Lancs, and she is shown as a widow.
But I can't find record of George's death between 1851 & 1861 in the Forest of Dean area ? However there are a couple of possibilities in 1859 in Wigan district.
What I would like is the baptism records of the other children.
It would be strange if 3 were baptised and not the rest ???
Thanks again
mxb...
p.s. I have just noticed that 2 of the children, Elizabeth & Sarah were baptised in Littledean Independent church/chapel and also Ruardean, but not William.
Are these 2 seperate churches/chapels ?
If so why 2 baptisms ?
non- conformist and time line
Its looking like you have Non conformist family - my normal warning about Non-conformist records applies ! - and and a time frame when registration was not manadated :-)

Hi slowhands.
Thanks again
As you say they appear to be non conformist.
Following your link about non conformist records, and another link from this forum's "admin", I ended up at the Gloucestershire Record Office catalogue.
On searching for George KNIGHT East Dean, I got a non conformist entry dated 1860 reference, d2598/5/3.
Would this indicate a death/burial entry do you think ?

Hi
The entry d2598/5/3 shows the following

Hi sylvia,
Thanks for the info.
Obviously not the George KNIGHT I am looking for.
Cheers,

Do you have Mary's marriage cert in 1858 - is George a witness ?

George Knight & Sarah Pritchard of East/Little Dean
George Knight & Sarah Pritchard are in my Family Tree. Although I have 141 Knight's in my Family Tree, George Knight's father William is not related to me, but his mother Sophia Meek is my 6 times Great Aunt.
As usual I have benefitted fromother people's postings by picking up information from Slowhands.
I can however add 2 baptism's William 27 Sep 1835, Independant Chapel, Ruardean & Thomas 7 November 1841 Ruardean Church.
I hadn't realised that Sarah Pritchard's mother was Elizabeth Bennett. I picked up Slowhands baptism and searched for the marriage :

I would like to establish details of Elizabeth Bennett as I have 217 Bennetts in my Family Tree, and it is interesting that George Knights mother Sophia Meek had a brother Thomas 1758 who married Mary Bennett 1758, daughter of Thomas Bennett & Lucy Hale.
George Knight 1802 is one of the Fourteen children of William Knight and Sophia Meek, born between 1780 & 1812, however 10 of them were dead by 1808. I have baptisms for all, and there are a number of duplicates - including 2 Sophia, 2 Richard, 2 Absalom & 4 Williams. I haven't got all the burial details though.

George & Sarah KNIGHT Little Dean Woodside
Hi slowhands.
No I didn't know George's daughter Mary married in 1858, so don't know if it shows George as deceased.
Her brother Thomas, I believe, married Elizabeth SMART in 1861, but again don't know the condition of George on the marriage entry.
Cheers,

George Knight & Sarah Pritchard of East/Little Dean
Hi Jim,
Following on from my reply of yesterday, I have just found the "Advanced Search" on this website (no-one can ever accuse me of moving too fast !).
This makes searching for children's baptisms of particular parents infinitely easier.
A search using just the parents names shows 17 children at Ruardean.
I presume they are all the same family ?
I think that is the biggest family yet on my "Tree"!!
I'll have to see what other treasures I can uncover...
(it's a shame I am unlikely to visit the record office as I still prefer to look through the original documents)
Thanks again Jim,
mxb...
