Phillip Powell, b abt 1822, Woolaston

Hi,

I am searching for any records on Phillip Powell b. abt 1822 in Woolaston.

The only record I have of him is from 1861 census

Where he is living in Llandaff, Wales, with second wife Maria and children -
Mary 9, Phillip 5, Eliza 3, Amelia 2 months. He was working as an Excavtor. He list his place of birth as Woolaston, Gloucestor.

I have seacrhed this site + ancestry for any parish records for his birth/chirstening but have found none. He does not seem to exist in 1851 or 1841 census. I am also searching for his first wife who is the mother of his first 3 children, but I have not found anything there either.
One possible marriage I found on Latter Day Saints website -
Phillip Powell and Sarah Ann Webster, Nov. 1844, Berkley, Gloucestor.

If anyone one is searching for the same people or might be able to help find any information I would really appreciate it :)

Hmm, Phillip Powell would have only been in early 20's in 1844 so I can't imagine he would have been a widower. The occupation's don't really fit either - as he was working as an Excavator 1861 so I assume that has something to do with mining.

I did another search on this website and found a marriage between Phillip Powell and Mary Pritchard 1838 ... although this one would be a little early unless the age of Philip Powell on cesus is wrong and he was actually older.
Mary was from Wyeson Parish, Monmouth, and Philip Powell was living in Newnham.

Another possibility is that he was married in Wales.

I still can't locate any baptism record though.

That seems to make some some sense a marriage between Jane and Phillip. Their first child Mary was born abt. 1852 - so and 1851 marriage would fit.

Yes, I know - I need to locate the birth certs of their children but some of them are hard to locate with the family moving around alot between the births of their children so it's hard to be 100% sure if it's the right one.

I still can't find any baptism records which is frustrating.

I've been using ancestry too - so you got the marriage from that site? I must be going blind because I spent a while looking through all the records. Although I was imagining that he was married a bit later mid 1840's and I was probably thinking of the wrong region.

I think that this is the birth cert for Mary Powell -
Merthyr T, Sep 1851.

Sometimes it's easier searching for birth certs on freebmd I think.

Hmm, could be but the age would make him quite young ...

I think that you are right though about the marriage between Jane and Philip - the dates seem to fit into place.

I suppose the only way I'd figure is through some birth certs.
