Is the name Musto a first name or a surname (General)

by dianeh @, Auckland, New Zealand, Tuesday, June 23, 2009, 10:35 (5706 days ago)

Is the name Musto a first name, surname or can it be both?

I have seen the excellent photo of John Musto Roseblade. I have Roseblades in my tree and I know it's not a very common name so I was looking for a link between my Roseblades and this man.

Apologies in advance if this is a stupid question

Thanks

Cheers

Diane

Alice MUSTO 1820 mother of John Musto ROSEBLADE

by Hubble, Saturday, June 27, 2009, 00:09 (5702 days ago) @ slowhands

Hi Slowhands,

It could well be that the mother's maiden name of Musto was given as a second name to a child... As the woman loses her name when married it was often a way of continuing (and so not losing) her family name.

Hello Slowhands and Rob,
I am John Musto related to the Gloucestershire Musto's. My side of the family seems to be particularly good at producing Female children. Given that the genetics are likely to be similar, Rob could well be right in suggesting "name survival idea".
