Margaret Tippins bn 1821 (General)
Margaret (parents Richard and Hannah York), married a George Evans in 1842, St Briavels, but I have not been able to find them afterwards. I know a few of my Tippins emigrated, but can't see anything in Ancestry's dataabases.
Does anyone have additional knowledge of them, please?
Thanks
Bob Jenkins

Thanks, Slowhands. The presence of stepchildren Jones would indicate that Margaret was formerly a Jones, whereas Margaret Tippins was declared as a spinster on marriage to George Evans.

Thanks, Mike. Good investigation! the link is certainly Noah, the rest now fits, especially the location, Berry Hill.

Margaret Tippins bn 1821
I think the York name comes into it because Margaret's mothers maiden name was York so maybe they adopted than name rather than George's surname of Evans?
I would just have assumed that when Margaret married George they would then take on the surname Evans.
Margaret Tippins bn 1821
The search has thrown up another puzzle......Timothy Evans who was an Evans on the 61 and 81 censuses and a York on the 71, 91 and 01. His father appears to have been John, a York on 41, 51, 71 and 81, and Evans on 61. I can't work out how he connects to Margaret Tippins or her mother Hannah York - yet. Help, please!!

John could be a brother to George baptised 1818 at Christchurch. There are 2 possible baptisms:

No guarantees but Jane could be also a brother to George:
Year: 1795
Month: Feb
Day: 15
Parents_Surname: YORK
Child_Forenames: Jane
Fathers_Forenames: Will[ia]m
Mothers_Forenames: Sarah
Mothers_Surname:

Event: Baptism

Given that John is aged 41 in the 1851 Census and 72 in the 1881 Census then the 1808 baptism is the most likely one.
BTW baptism register for Christchurch commences 1814.

Margarets parents were Richard Tippins baptised 2 Mar 1785 & Hannah YORK baptised 1 Mar 1781. They married 19 Oct 1808 Newland. But I expect you know all this and it was not your question. I cannot believe the family would have changed surnames to match a mother in law, so think the York finding a red herring.
1851 Census Coleford

Hannah 84 Newland
My connection here is that Richard Tippins grandmother on his maternal side was Susanna Marfell 1706 who married Thomas Wilce 1707.

I have to disagree as there is much evidence to be satisfied that this is the same family. In particular I would draw your attention to the following Parish Register entries:

Margaret Tippins bn 1821
Richard Tippins was the father of Margaret. Margaret was my GG Grandmother's sister.
Margaret married George Evans so I cannot see how their surname would then become York even if Margaret's mothers maiden name was York, this would be very unusual.
The Yorks must be another family altogether.
Margaret Tippins bn 1821
I have George Evans married to Margaret Tippins on 1 November 1842. They have 7 children. The First child Mary born in glamorgan and the others born either Northumberland or Scotland

More EVANS to YORK
I believe Hannah York 1780 had a brother William YORK who married a Sarah EVANS. Their son John is a York in most records, but Evans on 1861 census. John's son Timothy starts as a York but becomes Timothy Evans York by his second marriage to Elizabeth Russell in 1910. His children also have Evans as middle name......
