COSTER = THOMPSON Found (General)
Greetings,
David's posting re the Parish Records updates today prompted me to check yet again for THOMPSONs and COSTERs (and variants).
I was stunned/delighted to discover:
FOD transcriptions
1709 Jun 15 Johannes THOMPSON = Anna COSTER, Newland, mar (ID 88212; RegRef PMF154/2; P 43; Parish Gloucester Cathedral)
There are additional details in the marriage allegation (found 2003, but the marriage managed to stay hidden until now):
Gloucestershire Marriage Licence allegations
1709 Jun 15 John THOMPSON aged 22, of Newland, Glos & Anne COSTER aged 22, spinster of Newland, Glos, with consent of friends. Signed 'John TOMPSON'.
From what we can find of the COSTER family, and given her age and Newland location, we think she is (same variant spelling as IGI):
1687 Feb 23 Mar CUSTOS d/o James/Dorothy, Residence Colford, bap (ID 322125; RegRef GDR/V1/166; Parish Newland; Compiled from Latin PRs and BTs Old style date 1686/87)
Or perhaps her sister:
1688 Apr 23 Dorothy COSTER d/o James/Dorothy, Residence Colford, bap (ID 322184; RegRef P227 IN 1/2; P 65; Parish Newland; Compiled from Latin PRs and BTs)
(Either could have the middle name Anne/Anna?)
Father, abt 1661 James COSTER, was the younger brother of John II of the Copper Mills in Upper Redbrook (then Swinford, Bye Mill, etc).
1687 John THOMPSON is soon named in some COSTER lease documents and we're nearly certain he's the one who migrated to Bye Mill (Brother 1695 William THOMPSON went to Bitton and the Swinford Mill).
Meanwhile, we don't know where else to look to further identify 'Anne/Anna' and to make a concrete connection to the COSTER family.
Any thought, suggestions welcome.
Regards,
Marsha Stringer
