Hello,

Does anybody here know much about the Foster family from/around the Redbrook and Newland area? I know many of them were shoemakers or worked in the Redbrook Tin Plate works and I am just looking for any more information really.

thanks

Samuel FOSTER family from Macclesfield via Redbrook

by BrettFoster, Friday, July 24, 2009, 17:06 (5680 days ago) @ slowhands

I have found all the children of Samuel and Eliza

William Foster - b:1862 in Penallt. He is my GG grandfather. married Emily Evans of Dixton.

Eliza Jane Foster - b:1862 in Redbrook. Died in 1881. There was a public enquiry into her death and she fell from a dray.

Frederick John Foster - b: 1865 in Redbrook

Ellen Foster - b: 1868 in Redbrook

Thomas Foster - b: 1870 in Redbrook. Married Emily Rachel. Children were Alfred Henry, Hilda May, Dora Emily Maria, Myra Annie, and Gladys Lena.

Annie Foster - b: 1873 in Redbrook

Samuel Foster - b: 1876 in Redbrook. Married Adazella(h) Morgan of Llandogo. I am looking for more information into this Morgan Family too. children - Thomas Allen (b:1902) and Sidney Charles (b:1910)

Emily Foster - b: 1879 in Redbrook

George Llewellyn Foster - b: 1884 in Redbrook. Married Clara Soules in 1913.

I have discovered;

Samuel Foster
- b: 1838 in Macclesfield is the son of Edward Foster and Ann Foster.

Edward was born in Darlaston around 1795 and he joined the 90th Regiment of Foot in 1811 and was discharged in 1834.

Edward and Ann had three children

Elizabeth Foster b: 1827 in Cephalonia, Ionian Islands

Alfred Henry
b: 1834 in Ireland

Samuel Foster
b: 1838 in Macclesfield.

This makes perfect sense.

as I have found out from "Records of the 90th Regiment, (Perthshire Light Infantry)" Book that the 90th Regiment had a barracks in Macclesfield. In 1820, the Regiment went to Plymouth (Ann Foster born in Plymouth) to set sail towards the Ionian Islands. In 1821 Edward and Ann married on the Island of Corfu. In 1821 the 90th Regiment were then sent to Cephalonia (Elizabeth born there) on the HMS Seringapatam. in 1832 The Regiment sailed to Ireland (Alfred Henry born there) and in 1834, Edward was discharged. So Samuel must have been born in the Macclesfield barracks.

I cannot seem to find any more Info on Edward Foster other than that. I do not know how to trace who his father was.

Thanks a lot for taking time to help Slowhands!

Peter! you are brilliant!! this has bridged the gap!!

From this information, I have done some more research and have compared to other family trees and documents. I've been up all night doing it! *yawn*

I have managed to find my direct family tree all the way upto the mid 1500's!!!

I cant believe it! before I started doing my research last year, I barely knew further than my granddad!

Thanks So much for your help!!
