I am looking for some help in locating some news articles of work that my great grandfather, George Henry Rowlinson did for the county. According to his obituary, front page of the Dean Forest Guardian on May 26, 1937, he did alot of work to further the miners conditions and also in education. He was a resident of Cinderford. Thank you in advance for any help in leading me in the correct direction.

An attempt to revive the union in 1882 was repeated successfully in 1886 (fn. 67) and G. H. Rowlinson, who acted as local agent until 1918, became a respected figure in the Forest. (fn. 68) The union organized solid backing for the national coal strikes of 1921 and 1926. (fn. 69)

Describes him as a Methodist preacher and County councillor, and descibes his work for the Miners.

The 'Forest of Dean Pioneers', officially known as the 13th
(Service) Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment.

They were one of sixteen battalions of the Gloucestershire Regiment who
fought in the Great War.

They were raised by Sir Harry Webb in Cinderford Town Hall on Monday night,
14th December 1914, and consisted of coal miners and labourers. About 25% of
the battalion's strength came from the Forest itself, while the rest were
miners from South Wales and County Durham, along with labourers and artisans
from the rest of Gloucestershire, and a few from Birmingham.

They went to France in March 1916, and spent the war on the Western Front,
serving on the Somme in 1916 and the Passchendaele offensive in 1917. They
suffered heavy losses during the German offensives of March - April 1918.

Sam ROWLINSON, who was the battalion's quartermaster. (he was the son of
George Rowlinson, the miner's agent for the Forest of Dean.)
