JONES, Enos (b. 1856) (General)

I've been compiling my family tree for over 4 years, and this is my only stumbling block.

My great-great grandfather, Enos Jones, is listed on the census returns as being born in Rudd Hill/Rudding Hill, Glos. Further research indicates that he spoke very little English and spoke mainly Welsh. People have directed me to the village of Ruardean Hill in Glos., which seems plausible.

He was a miner and the first record I can find of him is in 1881 (Durham Prison - haven't been able to find out why), and his later marriage listed him as Ernest (though this may be due to misinterpretation at the time). His eldest son is called Thomas Henry (I know this is sometimes carried down from the father or mother's father). That's everything I know.

I am awaiting receipt of his marriage certificate to give his father's name. I cannot find a birth certificate at all, and another forum has suggested their may be some confusion with the name Enos and Enoch.

Is anyone else reseaching the Jones family in the area at about this time? I appreciate any advice offered!

Thanks,
Kerri
