Marriage of Woodman Adams to Elizabeth Morse (General)

by mikehowes, Friday, August 14, 2009, 20:53 (5654 days ago)

On 16 Feb 1904 at the Westbury on Severn register office, Woodman Adams married Elizabeth Morse, aged 22 (born 1881/1882), spinster of Milcombe Head, Gatcombe, the daughter of James Morse. One of the witnesses was Anice Morse.
Elizabeth seems almost certainly to be the daughter of James Morse and Annis/Annice Wyman, and yet the age is wrong and the only Elizabeth born to the couple was Tryphena Elizabeth in 1885. I have not found any reference to a marriage or death of Tryphena.
Can anyone confirm or disprove that the Elizabeth who married Woodman Adams and Tryphena Elizabeth are one and the same person?
Looking forward to any information available.

I believe Elizabeth stopped using her name Srythena and elizabeth was her chosen name. I have a wedding cert to show her marriage to Woodman Adams. What is your interest in this couple? My great grandfather was her brother.

J,
I am researching the Fletcher family for a friend who is the grandson of Woodman Adams and Elizabeth Morse. Having seen all the discussion on the subject I am now happy to accept that Tryphena Elizabeth and the Elizabeth who married Woodman Adams is one and the same person. Obviously "Tryphena" was not a dainty or delicate enough name for her!
Which of Tryphena's brothers is your great grandfather, Charles or Daniel) I believe Albert's marriage was childless)?

I have Helen A Daft in my tree, born 1963, married 1985, with 2 children Hayley and Matthew. The grandson of Woodman Adams I mentioned is Tony Fletcher who is Helen's 1st cousin once removed. His line is down through Hilda Annie's sister Mary Eugenie Adams and Kenneth George Fletcher.
If you would like to discuss the family any deeper please email me.

Mike, my maiden name was Daft and I was born Helen Anne on 20 December 1963 in Cheltenham. I vaguely remember my Great Aunt Mary as she was one of my grandmother's younger sisters. I know the family tree quite well Mike having traced the Adams back to the mid-1700's at least so I may be able to help you more? Are you a friend of Tony Fletcher's or are you tracing the family on his behalf? My grandmother's name was Hilda Anice Adams, she married Frank Cyril Daft and they had two sons, Ronald and John Bryan, my father. If you can identify any gaps in your research then hopefully I can send you some more information?

Helen, how much do you know about the siblings of Elizabeth 'Tryphena' Morse. My line comes through her brother Charles who was my great grandfather.
I know Faith went to live in Kent.
Albert had a child who died.
Daniel had two sons one died.
Ethel i know a little about.
But know nothing of Edith Annis or Rose.

I believe we must be of the same generation i was born in 1965.

Jackie, very little I'm afraid at the moment as I've been kept busy recently tracing my mother's family tree which has taken me to Hampshire! Would you mind sending me any info you have and then I'll see how much progress I can make. Thanks in anticipation. On a different note I work with the Great Grandson of Albert Adams, grandson of Frederick Adams, we have known each other for years and then by chance, we discovered that we shared the same great grandparents, small world isn't it? As you know, Albert was Woodman's eldest brother.

I was interested in your messages about (Tryphena) Elizabeth as I am the granddaughter of her sister (Ethel) Blanche who also chose to be known by her second name. Thank you for helping me solve a mystery as I have not been able to find her marriage or death details until now. Her decision to discard the Tryphena may have something to do with her having an aunt and an older cousin who were also called Tryphena.

Rosee,
Thanks for your message ref Tryphena Morse. I've been able to find the marriages for all her siblings except her sister Ethel Blanche. Can you give me a few pointers towards finding her marriage and subsequent families?

My grandmother, Blanche married Lancelot Taylor in 1916 in Manchester. He was her cousin as his mother was Rose Hannah, older sister of Annis Morse nee Wyman. They had two daughters, my mother, who was Anice Blanche and was born at Milcombe Head, and Rose.
