Hi Nick
Here is briefly what I know. (If I have the correct family!)
Thomas Morgan was baptised at Newland on January 31st 1836.
He was the son of cordwainer (shoemaker) and Newland’s Parish Clerk Richard Morgan (born 1793 Newland) and Sarah Bargum from nearby Redbrook.

Thomas was apprenticed as a wheelwright to his brother in law Edward Lear at Kingsteignton in Devon according to the 1851 census.

Thomas, now a wheelwright & carpenter, married another Morgan at Colford in 1873. She was Emma Morgan (born 1840) from Coleford, daughter of post-boy – William Morgan according to the marriage record.

They had at least four children - George (1874),
Bessie (1877), Mary (1884), Lily (1886), and an adopted son Edmund Morgan (born 1864).

Edmund married Staffordshire born Mary Ferneyhough at Newland in 1888 and followed in his father’s trade as a wheelwright. He settled in nearby Redbrook.

George was an apprenticed blacksmith in 1891. On the 1901 census he is a farrier, married to Sarah and living in Croydon, Surrey.

Tom
