Hi

After looking at the 1911 census I found that my great grandmother had 15 children. She must have had 16 altogether though because the youngest Raymond born 1911 is not on the census with them , I only had 10 I knew about including Raymond...
She states in 1911 that 8 had already died.

She was married to Evan Howell and she was Elizabeth nee Ward

I have

Elizabeth Ward b 13 dec 1890 - married Albert Marshall in 1908
Gladys May Ward b 10 Aug 1895 - died 2 Jan 1903
Annie Louisa Howell b 06 Apr 1899 - married Leslie Frowen 1916
Evan George Howell b 22 Mar 1901 - died 10 April 1901
Evan George Howell b 06 Mar 1902 - survived into late adulthood
Sarah Ann Howell b 01 Jul 1903 - died 1919
Rhoda Howell b 16 Feb 1905 - died 28 Feb 1905
Jane Howell b 1906 - died 1906
William Howell b 1906 - survived into his 60's
Arthur John Howell b 17 Jun 1908 - died 28 feb 1930
James Henry Howell b Apr 1910 - died May 1910
Raymond John Howell b 1911 - died 15 April 1913.

so out of 15 children in total I have 5 definite deaths before 1911 so who are the missing children who must have died also?

I have tried the baptism records on this site but she doesn't seem to have bothered, that is until 1912 when the surviving children were all baptised together by widowed father.

I have looked at burial records which is how I found the missing 3 I didn't already have...

... any ideas anyone..?

HI

There seems to be a gap between 1890 To 1895 and judging by the frequency of births the missing two may be in that time frame.

What do you think?

Thanks Pete.. I think you could be right.. I have been looking at it for too long I think and hadn't spotted that, was going round in circles. She was married in 1898 so I suppose 1 could have slipped in between 1895 and then also..
I'll have another look around those years.. Could be difficult without baptisms as the names Ward and Howell are so common :(

Can but try though :)

Thanks again. It does help when someone else has a look :) Fresh eyes and all that.

Hi

The births are in the Monmouth District and looking at FreeBmd there are quite a few in the time period.

Good Hunting

Yes Pete, think there will lots of ref checks req at the GRO!! :(

I have found a death in sep q 1892 for a Frances Ward, age 0. An aunt of mine always said there was a Frances but she though she was living and had visited her as a young child. I know for definite now that it was Sarah she visited, so I am thinking that this baby may be the Frances she mentioned... She did tend to get confused over the names.

Trouble is I can't find a birth reg for this Frances so may have to take a chance on the death cert..

Not easy some days is it? lol
