Yes, I'm a direct descendant of Samuel LEIGHTON (1851-1921) and Margaret Sarah WILLIAMS (1855-1916). Samuel was Charles LEIGHTON's brother. Just doing some research on this side of the family at the moment. Charles and Samuel's father was James LEIGHTON/LAYTON and their mother was Eliza HARRIS... Happy to discuss any further details!

Hi Caroline,
As you can see this thread was first posted a few years ago, and it's perhaps unlikely it's original poster dorset1 will read your post, unless they ticked the notification "box". Unfortunately as you've no doubt realised dorset1 can no longer be directly emailed from the forum users (no hyperlink symbol against poster's name). I don't know why this happens, perhaps this feature is deactivated after a certain "time since last post" deadline ??.
Anyhow, we had a similar case a few weeks ago, but our admin still had an email address for the original poster and I believe succeeded in contacting them off-air. Hopefully the same can happen for you in this case ?.
Admin please can you clarify, thanks.

Please could you comment on the possibility, or not, of trying to assist Caroline by trying to contact the original poster "dorset1" of this thread, as you kindly did a few weeks ago with great success.
Many thanks.

Jeff
Sorry about the time it has taken to get back to you on this one but I missed reading your message at the time you posted it.
The previous e-mail address I helped out with was an exception as it was a mutual request for two members of the same family both willingly wanting to make contact with each other.
Trying to tack down and contact people who are no longer a registered member is not a thing I wish to get involved with on a regular basis. It is the responsibility of the poster to make sure they are still registered and their e-mail address is current if they wish to be notified of a reply to a posting they made.
However, on this occasion I've sent a message to dorset1 and we will see if we get a reply back.

Hi David,
thanks for your helpfull reply and for clarifying the situation in general. You were so quick on the previous occasion I hadn't realised that was a "one-off", but now I understand it all better thankyou and I'll bear that in mind in future.
What is the "mechanism" for a poster "losing" their direct email icon ?. Is it based on time since their last post, perhaps, or do you periodically check emails are still active, or what ?. Sorry to ask but I'm a naturally curious person who likes to help others particularly new posters wherever possible, yet being still new myself I want to do things properly.
Thanks again and please keep up the great work !

The following appears twice in the Help-FAQ
If you have registered previously but have not logged-in during the past 6 months your account will automatically have expired and been deleted in order to keep the user database up-to-date.
You can of course do a new registration if you wish to use the facilities of the membership again.

Hi again David,
thanks for your succinct reply, I am sorry to have so clearly put you out, I must confess to not having fully read all the faq's. Must try harder.
ps while on the subject of simple human errors, please be gently reminded that despite my correcting your error the first time around, your subsequent post re the Photo of Pound House Longhope is still erroneously stating this was the home of the Beard Family. To reiterate, in my thread of June 6th I corrected you as follows:
"In actual fact the Beards lived in Pound Cottage, attached to the right of Pound House to right of tall chimney stack."
