Hello Meek lovers, there are plenty about. Right this is a "Am I barking up the wrong tree" request.

I have mentioned here before that a branch of my family became Mormons and headed for the USA, as they were Mormons much of the family tree has already been done, but the Meek line stops with Thomas born around 1808, the Mormon records say born 1807 Weston under Penyard, so using our parish records I've done a little research. This post has been prompted by an E-mail from Ken Meek in Arizona which is just outside the Forest of Dean.

Thomas Meek baptised 2nd Oct 1808 mother Elizabeth, no father mentioned so Elizabeth was an unmarried mum, probably in her late teens or early 20's. There are 3 Meek families in Weston producing children during the 1780's, John and Sarah, Joseph and Ann, and George and Elizabeth, the last couple I'm thinking might be the parents of my Elizabeth, but there is no Elizabeth among their children baptised Weston, but there is an Elizabeth Meek baptised Ruardean in 1787 daughter of George and Elizabeth.

I know there is certainly no way for me to prove this is true, but one of you Meek experts may be able to say "No, this Elizabeth Meek and parents George and Elizabeth were always a Ruardean family, not Weston."

Thomas Meek by the way died in Utah in 1891, the family sailed to the US in 1866, an epidemic had killed several family members in the previous 12 months, I think they were part of an exodus of people around this time. cheers Fred

PS. Ann Ennis was the name of Thomas's wife, she was born Weston 1808, and the family is well documented at the familysearch site as part of the Benjamin Rogers Meek file
