I submitted a query about the Mary TINGLE / Philip EVANS or EDWARDS marriage in Mitcheldean (Mar 16th 1812) to the site, and got a really helpful response, which I'm including to complete the thread for the sake of future researchers.

I`ve just looked at both the parish register and also the BTs, in the BTs the marriage is clearly between Philip EDWARDS and Mary TINGLE. Unfortunately the top of the page is cut off in the parish register, but in the signature box the name is Philip Evans. We are currently doing a comparison between the BTs and PRs for Mitcheldean, so I will need to rephotograph this page from the parish register. Sorry I can`t give a more definite answer.

So it's a definite possibility that the Mary in question who married Philip EDWARDS was Mary TINGLE (also written TYNGLE). Philip is recorded as EDWARDS in every other record other than the marriage where EVANS slips in! The family settled in Green Bottom.
