Occupation - Neddy Keeper (General)

Can anyone help please.
I'm finding an occupation of 'Neddy [sic] Keeper' given to a father on a birth certificate. Does anyone know what job this was??
The certificates were from about 1850 and the address given was May Hill, if this will help.
Thanks Brian

Could well be Chris :) I'm just going on when we were kids and said 'Gee up Neddy' when we were on the rocking horse! :)

Yes, possible, Horse or Donkey, seems obvious, 'Neddy', or am I reading more into it?
Thanks Brian
