Thank you for your reply slowhands, I can't find any record of a marriage between
Elizabeth Jones or Elizabeth Rooke to Charles Davi(e)s, I think my next step will be to apply for the birth certificate of one of the children, which should provide Elizabeth's maiden name.

I have received the Birth Certificates of two children of Charles and Elizabeth Davi(e)s that I applied for, they both give the maiden name of Elizabeth as Llewellyn, using the freeBMD database I tried to find a record of a marriage between Charles Davis and Elizabeth LLewellyn, I could not, how complete is the freeBMD database?, or is it possible that they were not married?

Thanks again slowhands, I have come across Elizabeth Wellington in my search of marriages of a Charles Davi(e)s and I must say that it made me think, that like you, that this could be the woman I was looking for, the date and the place fit, but can you, or anyone else, give a reason why she should give her maiden as Llewelyn? (or any other spellings).

.. if she was "adopted" or born out of wedlock - and registered as Llewelyn ( but shown on the census and marries as Wellington , then discovers she is a Llewelyn)

You could be right about adoption slowhands, I can't find a birth record for Elizabeth Wellington c1849 for the Llanwarne area in the freeBMD database, and you found Elizabeth Llewellen registered in the Ross area in 1848, so it's possible that they are the the same person.
Perhaps if I applied for the Birth Certificate of Elizabeth Llewellen, it might provide some useful information.

By any chance does it hint at Elizabeth's age in 1851 ?

This is off the Church of Latter Day Saints. However, Ann WELLINGTON born Orcop aged 4 on the 1851 census.
There is an Anne LEWELLYN christened there 10 May 1846, parents William and Emily LEWELLYN ???? no Anne WELLINGTON
and then again Robert WELLINGTON christened 7 April 1856, Orcop, William and Emily WELLINGTON - (are we talking about Alias?? - who are William's parents ???
On the 1841 census,LLanwarne - William WELLINGTON is aged 19 and a Servant to John WELLINGTON aged 77 and a Farmer.
John WELLINGTON (Uncle to William WELLINGTON/L(L)EWELLYN - was christened 1769, parents John and Margaret WELLINGTON - nee RUCH, married 28 March 1769)

Hello Slowhands i'm having another go at solving the Elizabeth Wellington/Llewellen mystery, so I sent for the Elizabeth Llewellen Birth Certificate, it gives the father as William Llewellen and the mother as Emmaline (maiden name Griffiths), so is it possible that William and Emma Wellington are William and Emmaline Llewellen as suggested by m p griffiths on a later post? if so can you suggest a reason for the name change?

Seems to fit with this :- and William using both WELLINGTON and LLEWELLEN - hence the confusion - will we ever know why ?- perhaps not but we can be pretty sure these are the same couple.

LLEWELLEN

How do you pronounce LLEWELLEN - in Glos/Herefordshire etc. - does it sounds anything like WELLING.....?? to the person(s) who were writing it down i.e. census, etc.
