Peter

Rhoda Read who married Thomas Ernest Knight would have been my 2nd cousin twice removed as her grandmother was Selina Marfell, my great great great aunt who had a most interesting history.

I have a lot of information about this family including a number of certificates, but I also have a lot of gaps.

I am sure we can gain a lot by sharing information and if you wish to do so, click on my email link.

Thanks for the photograph. If you haven't seen it already, you might find the Ed Moll's Bar photograph I submitted of interest.

Knight Family Ruardean Woodside

Hello Jim
In researching my maternal family, the Wood's, I have discovered that Albert married my Great Aunt, Ethel May/Mary in 1927. My interest is aroused because family lore is that Albert accompanied my grandfather, William Wood (Ethel's brother), to the States in the late 19th cent in search of gold, so at this time, probably the Yukon Gold Rush? it also thought that Albert bought land somewhere in America and stayed there, whilst William returned home to marry my grandmother Margaret Ann Price in 1908 in Brecon. We have ship manifest records showing Albert criss-crossing the Atlantic in the first part of 20th cent but have no idea if any of the rest is true! Albert and William were both born in Ruardean c1881/2 and it's just maybe Albert returned to Glos in 1908 for the wedding?

Of course, Albert's mother was another Selina (Parson's), wife of Cornelius Knight.

As I said, I have just started looking at Albert and the prospect oh his going to America so have little to offer you, other than another rumour to investigate!

If you know anything of Albert in the early 20th cent - or earlier, I would be delighted to hear of it - or anything else you might think would add some meat to the vital records.

Best wishes

Alan Lonslow(son of nee Brenda Wood)

Hello

I do not have Albert's documented birth but what I do have, is:

- his baptism (Gloucestershire, England, Baptisms, 1813-1913) at 31 May 1882 at Holy Trinity, Drybrook; where it states his mother, was Selina Parsons, his father as Cornelius Knight. Of course, the Wood's were from Drybrook in 1881 when William was born.
- this ties in with a Cornelius who appears as his father on his wedding (Gloucestershire, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1938) to Ethel May Wood in 1927, and
- also at his wedding, also in Drybrook; the witnesses were Ethel's sister, Gladys Drew (nee Wood) and Ernest Knight. This links him conclusively to the Wood and Knight families.

I had seen the US record but did not connect because I did not know of his US travels - and there were a lot of Albert Knight's!

I have noted the Albert who is photographed outide Moll's Bar - certainly of short stature!

Do we know when he returned to UK to marry Ethel; and did they stay here or return to the States?

Only question. In the F-o-D post you say Albert's mother was an Abia Read; how does that fit?

Hope this helps.

Regards

Alan

There is no connection as far as I know between the Albert Knight shown in the Ed Moll's Bar picture and the Wood family.

Albert Knight was born as I have quoted previously in 1892 His parents were Cornelius Knight born 1861 and Abia Read born 1868. Married 24 Jul 1889, I have the certificate. Abia Read's parents were William Read 1839 & Selina Marfell 1839, married 1o Aug 1896. I have that certificate and the certificate for the 1896 marriage to her second husband Clarence Oliver Whittington born 1876

The parents of Cornelius Knight 1861 were Benjamin Knight born 1825 Stafford and Rebecca Davis born 1827, married 28 Oct 1849 Parkend.
