May Gwendoline Pritchard married a Mr. Ross? (General)
by rookancestrybest , United Kingdom, Saturday, January 02, 2010, 23:06 (5513 days ago)
I've done postings before about May Gwendoline Pritchard/Mary Gwendoline Pritchard/Gwen Pritchard (born 1888) daughter of Arthur William and Mary Teresa (nee Rook(e))Pritchard. However, an elderly relative has now told me that she is of the view that May Gwendoline Pritchard married a Mr. Ross and that this would probably have been in the 1920s or 1930s and that she probably continued to live in either Coleford or Swansea. I am limited as to how I can search this as it is relatively recent. Does anyone have any information to confirm this?

May Gwendoline Pritchard married a Mr. Ross?
by vblease, Tuesday, January 05, 2010, 14:04 (5511 days ago) @ rookancestrybest
Hi
This is nothing directly to do with May Gwendoline Pritchard, but one of my relatives is Tamar Pritchard (abt 1811 - 1888). She married James Charles on the 10 March 1839 in Lydney.
I have no other information about Tamar Pritchard, so wondered if one of her brothers was related to your May Gwendoline. The birth year of Tamar is unclear as in the census's it ranges from 1802 to 1813. Her burial record has her born in 1813. Places of birth range from Awre, Blakeney, Viney Hill (which are all close to one another).
If you have any knowledge of her then I would be please to have it.
Thanks
Val

The "weight" of evidence suggests she was born 1811/12 in the Awre and Blakeney parish. Viney Hill parish was formed around 1865/6 however prior to that the settlement was "under" Awre and Blakeney Parish. So she may well have been born in the settlement that we now know as Viney Hill, when it was "administered" by clergy from Awre and Blakeney.
The church of ALL SAINTS, Viney Hill, begun in 1865 and consecrated in 1867, was built as a memorial to Charles Bathurst (d. 1863) of Lydney Park by his wife Mary and his brother and heir, the Revd. W. H. Bathurst. (fn. 25) In the mid 1830s the Viney Hill area was visited by the curate of Blakeney and the vicar of Awre. (fn. 26) Later Henry Poole organized missions from St. Paul's church, Parkend,

Slowhands, you are a star. Thanks so much for the information about the different parish boundarys.
I have all the information on census, marriage and death. She doesn't appear to have been Baptised as all the wonderful work that people have done to transcribe the parish registers doesn't show Tamar at all, although there are Pritchards listed.
Looks like I've come to a blank with Tamar and her family unless anyone else has her in their tree.
Thanks again for the info.

I like your reasoning Slowhands, but I'm not convinced there is enough evidence to make that leap of faith that both John and Tamar were illegitimate & from the same mother - and why would one be Baptised and not the other?
However, I will keep your evidence (thanks for the work) and see what comes up later when I hunt again.
Regards

I'm not "convinced" either - just put it forward as a possible based on the limited number of Pritchard families in the area at the time

Tamar CHARLES nee PRITCHARD 1812 - 1888, Viney Hill
by birdlady sharon, Tuesday, September 14, 2010, 18:09 (5259 days ago) @ slowhands
I am researching Tamar PRITCHARD CHARLES. Our line comes through her son, James. I have all of her children's birth records hoping to find a name other than Tamar. All the certificates say Tamar. I had someone go to the cemetery in Lydney to find the tombstone. He said the tombstones were crumbling and he was unable to find her grave. (the Lydney church records says she is buried there). My question is who is the couple who witnessed the marriage? I know James Charles had a sister, Anne, but I can find no record of her marriage to William Price or find them in the census.
