Just wondering if anyone had any information on the history of Cowles House in Hope Mansell......my great grandmother spent alot of time there in the early 1900s.....think it was owned by friends of hers rather than actual blood family......any help would be appreciated - how old is the actual house? Thanks for any information....there may also be a link as we have a line of Cowles in the family but going back from 1756.

Cowles House Hope Mansell

There was a booklet published in the 1980's on the history of Hope Mansell, researched I believe by the Weston Under Penyard Vicar of the time, and I will look through it at the next GFHS (Forest Branch) Meeting, for any reference to Cowles House.

It is a very old house with amazingly thick stone walls and a fireplace big enough for the traditional "yule log" which I remember from when I was a guest at the house. Surprisingly, the house is not mentioned by the RCHM.
