Parish Chapels at Coleford and Newland (General)

Can anybody tell me if there were separate Chapels at Coleford and Newland?
I have found what I believe are ancestors' "Birth" at Coleford Chapel and "Baptism" at Newland Chapel. For example; Record ID 157996, Mary MATHEWES, Parents: Thomas and Jane, Event: Birth on 17 March 1776, Registered at Coleford Parish Chapel and Record ID 246730, Mary MATHEWS, Parents: Thomas and Jane, Residence: Coleford, Event: Baptism on 24 March 1776, Registered at Newland Parish Chapel.
I think Thomas and Jane MATTHEWS (various spellings)had at least 7 children born between 1776 and 1788. Most of the records have a birth record registered in Coleford Chapel and a baptism record registered at Newland Chapel. Jane has a baptism record at Coleford on 7 April 1783 and a baptism record at Newland on 27 April 1783. Elizabeth has a baptism record at both Newland and Coleford on 9 November 1788.
Any information explaining this would be very appreciated.

Newland was the "head" church, and there were smaller chapels in Newland parish, including Coleford ( before it developed and became its own Parish 1894 ish) and Bream.
It is not uncommon to find records in a Chapelry and then an apparent duplicate in Newland's records.

Just to add a bit more. All Saints Newland, being a large parish had several 'chapels of ease' ie not so far to walk to and from. These were:-
Bream, Coleford, Clearwell and possibly Redbrook.
Bream (St James') became a parish in it's own right in 1813.
Coleford Parish records exist from 1768. New building 1821 - 1882. Demolished 1882 as too small, clocktower still in existence. My greatgrandfathers sister Mary was baptized there in 1829. New church (St Johns) then built on edge of Town. Don't know when it became parish in own right.
Clearwell My greatgrandfather was baptized there 1831. Still there but new building from 1866. Clearwell became a parish in it's own right in 1830. New church dedicated to St Peter.
Redbrook looks as though it was a Chapel of Ease to Newland going back to the 13th Century. List of incumbents include Henry Douglas and George Ridout of Newland. Henry Douglas compiled an index of parish registers for Newland which is very useful for researchers and George Ridout lived in the age of photography so pics. of him.

Do you know if the records of Redbrook are held in Newland. I am looking for records for the early 1700's to about 1770. I have a William Yearsley who was baptised in 1777 at Newland but the father is residing in Redbrook. However,
I am looking for a William Yearsley ( not the one mentioned above ) baptism and his marriage to Sarah, possibly Meredith in and about 1757. Some of William and Sarah's children are baptised in Monmnouth and they are listed on the Forest Web Site.

I don't know where you are situated, but you need to go to Gloucestershire County Records at Gloucester. It's all there.
Redbrook, like Coleford, Clearwell and Bream were originally Chapels of Ease for All Saints Newland. I finished with my researches a long time ago, so my memory is a bit hazy. Newland Parish records will be on fiche and include the Chapels of Ease. In addition, the incumbent in the early 1800's compiled an index. That is pure gold as you can pick up other members with your family name. Latter best asked for from the staff there.
Best to ring ahead and mention both the fiches and index for Newland. I think the phone number is 01452-425295. Also for the opening times.
