To add to the confusion, the name Betty is often used in that form and baptisms take place using that name. However, the name Betty is often also a derivative of Elizabeth in the same way as Tom is to Thomas and Fred is to Frederick, both forms are used in baptism in the shortened as well as the full version of the name. Bearing in mind that in many cases the parents could not read or write and knew no different.

With regards to the parents of those mentioned by Teresa - i.e. James 1785, Betty 1781, Hannah 1779, William 1791, Charles 1783, Winy 1797, Amelia 1787, Cornelius 1794, Cheasey 1799, Thomas 1803 and Richard 1789. I have the parents as Charles Baldwin and Elizabeth Dovey, married 28 Aug 1778 Ledbury. Elizabeth Dovey baptised 24 Jun 1759 Ruardean, parents William Dovey & Elizabeth Tingle. The will of William Dovey of Ruardean 1795 refers to son-in-law Charles Baldwin.

It is difficult to be 100% accurate with information this far back so I cannot guarantee that the information is correct. In my case it is not that important as neither Charles Baldwin or Elizabeth Dovey are related to me, however I have numerous relations from their dependants.
