Is anyone able to tell me if there is a gravestone for Philip Horseman at Monmouth Parish Church. The PR's show that Philip died in 1807, but do not give his age.
Thanks

Hi
I've checked the Monmouth Monmumental Inscriptions (held at Newport Reference Library) for Monmouth (St Mary's Parish Church). There is no inscription for Philip Horseman who died in 1807.
Could he have been buried in another churchyard at Monmouth.

Many graves never had a headstone as the family could not afford one. Also, headstones deteriorate and become unreadable over time.

Many thanks for checking out the MI. It was worth asking, although I do appreciate that not everyone had a headstone, and that those which do exist may not be readable. It seems that I was unlucky this time.

Take a look at the IGI. There are possibilities of an extended family there in Monmouth including two marriages for a Philip HORSEMAN of about the correct age. Then a possible birth and parents at Ewyas Harold.

Thanks for your reply - I have got details of Philips marriages and several of his children, (some courtesy of this site). Your suggestion as to the baptism is very welcome, as it does seem to be the correct age. Looking at the parents names, again there is a correlation, as the first child of his second marriage was Frances (after his mother ?). Ive not found any children called Philip though, but live too far away to trawl the records, so am reliant on transcripts, and the IGI etc. I'll get my atlas out how close Ewyas Harold is to Monmouth.
