COSLETTs (General)

Hi,

I appealed for some help a coiuple of years ago in tracing my g Grandmother who was born Coslett and moved to FOD in the 1890s where she lived until she passed away in 1930. The help I received was fantastic and helped me a great deal. Although I have a great deal of information in respect of names, I still regularly look at the forum as I'm keen to understand more about life in the Forest rather than just having a list of names.

In terms of gatherting names as an exercise in itself, I hit a brick wall some time ago in the Coslett line. Unusual names are very much a two-edged sword. My ancestors came from Llangyfelach in Glamorgan - there's no census records or other records for them for 1851 or 1861 - and I came across the post below. I've been advised thast the person who posted it has since left the forum but if anyone can either shed any light on this branch or could contact Andrew I'd be extremely grateful.

In my research, I've not found any connection to the French Cosletts mentioned here although I did spend some time on a red herring trail when I first found them! It may of course be that there is a connection even further back.

As this is largely off topic, I'm happy for folks to mail me via the members list.

Hannah, I have Coslett ancestors who came from the Llangyfelach, Llansamlet area near Swansea and moved to Gwent around 1820-1840, have you checked this area for your Coslett's? There are quite a few Coslett's in West Wales.
