The Sterts - looking for location (General)
On the Parish Records Section, I have an ancestor whose residence at the time of marriage is given as 'The Sterts' I did Google this and came up with nothing. Anyone know anything about The Sterts?
Thanks

In order to narrow the search a liitle, can you tell us which Parish it was that you found the mention of The Sterts?

Could it be Bourts or Boarts - Worrall Hill / Upper Lydbrook ?

Yes, Perhaps you're right. so maybe this was a transcription error?

George MEDCROFT - Rhoda VAUGHAN - I guess ?
in which case Worrall Hill would seem to fit in English Bicknor parish, and its close to Aston Bridge / Pludds / High Beech which also feature in their census entries.
Looks like it could be a mis - transcription.

I've received an email from one of the members of the message board Gill Newbury, which I've posted below
'My grandfather was at The Sterts on the 1901 census. On the same page is The Sterts Farm and The Sterts House. They are situated at Longstanding on the road to English Bicknor. I met a new 2nd cousin last year who lives next to Sterts Farm and she pointed out a row of 4 or 5 cottages opposite the farm which could well have been referred to as The Sterts.'
As George Medcraft/Medcroft and Rhoda Vaughan were listed as 'Farm Servants' on the Parish Records I think we have solved The Sterts mystery!
Thanks for everyones help.
