Alfred and Tom PARKER, East Dean (General)
by MaxineZaidman, Tuesday, September 12, 2006, 08:08 (6695 days ago)
I wonder if some kind soul would look up the following on the 1861 or 1871 and find out whether they are siblings, and if so their parent's names. All resident in East Dean in 1861, but not necessarily born there.
I had them previously attributed to the wrong parents - the dangers of making assumptions not backed up with documentation!
Alfred Jonah PARKER b 1854 (GRO ref: 6a 157)
Tom PARKER b. ~ 1858 m Emily Harris
William Sidney Parker b ~1860.
On the 1881, Alfred and Tom are married with their own families, but William seems to be living with James and Susannah Meek.
Many thanks,
Maxine

Thanks for all the responses regarding these three brothers, born 1854, 1858 and 1860 respectively.
It appears they are sons of Thomas Parker and Susanahh X, and they were definitely living in East Dean in the late 1850's. Although on the 1901 Alfred states his place of birth as Nafold, Gloucestershire. Thomas died before 1861 because Susanah is listed as widow on the 1861 census. Susannah later married James Meek.
The boys went on to marry (Alfred to Hannah Parsons, Tom to Emily Harris and William to Constance X) and have their own families. Alfred and Hannah married at Drybrook Holy Trinity and their gravestone is in the cemetery at there(well it was the last time I looked), but the family seem to have been non-conformists.
I've been trying to figure out whether Thomas Parker (snr) was connected to my own family of Parkers - John, Mary and children (see previous threads). I therefore need to find Thomas and Susanahs marriage to find out more about Thomas
The thing that made me think that they were was a connection is that John and Mary had a son Jonah who died in 1854/5. A number of Jonah's siblings named their own children after Jonah, and the name continues through the family for a further 2 generations. Therefore I wondered if this was also the case with Alfred Jonah. It might of course just be coincidence!
Jonah was married when he died. He wed Naomi Elton (daughter of Samuel) in December 1952, and had one daugher Leah. Naomi remarried Richard Malson soon after. Leah Parker/Malson later married John Jordan.
Many thanks.

Difficult to link this "lad" up with any parents right now as he is lodging in 1841 and 1851, but he is in the right place to marry a Susan(nah) and become father to Alfred.. ( and does not appear in 1861 as far as I can tell)

Hi Maxine.
My main interest is the Marfell family, and Tom Parker has links to that family. Tom & Emily had 5 children including Lily Annie Florence Parker 4.10.1893/24.10.1948 who married 22.5.1920 Providence Chapel, Drybrook to Bernard William Marfell 10.1.1891/6.9.1980 -they had a daughter May who I have met on several occassions and she has helped me considerably with my research. Two "Gatherings" of Marfells have been held in May's house in Wigpool. Another of Tom & Emily's children Bernard H B Parker married Kathleen Marfell.
Pasted below is a Memorial Inscription which I know you will be interested in :
In loving memory of Tom PARKER who entered into life? Jan 26th 1934, aged 76 years, also his wife Emily PARKER Oct 31st 1937 aged 80 years. Also Lily MARFELL, precious wife of Bernard MARFELL, of Wigpool Oct 24 1948 aged 66 years. "Saved by grace". Also of Annie Florence, their daughter who entered life on Oct 27th 1890 aged 11 years.
An interesting quote - "entered into life"

ALFRED WILLIAM PARKER married AGNES CHARLOTTE HARRIS on 3 june 1911
His father is stated as ALFRED JONAH PARKER.Please could this
be confirmed. The family seem to be registered with Forest of Dean
Bible Christian circuit and unfortunately there is no record of his baptism.
Thank you for any help on this.
