Roll of Honour - Ruardean section, War Memorials (General)

I contacted him back in 2013 as my father and uncle are on the list and I wondered where the information came from. Andrew wasn't able to tell me much other than the information came from an individual who he assumed knew my father.

This thread was active a year or so before I joined the forum, I hadn't seen it before today, so many thanks Cally for the heads-up as my father's line are from the Ruardean side of the Forest.

On first reading this post I assumed that this Ruardean Roll was one of the many that was prepared by local Councils and such like soon after WW1, often while preparing a public memorial plaque or statue.
However I now see it includes names from WW2, which probably isn't your grandfather Cally but if it is then he would be more difficult to research online.

Sadly Slowhands doesn't appear to be around this forum any more? I got the impression from his posts that he was from, or had close ties with, the Ruardean area; could this Roll have been a project he was associated with ?. I then saw the post from Harry Brook, who I think confirms it is indeed a recent "work-in-progress" project, albeit probably referencing back to older memorials and such like. Hopefully Harry will be able to tell us more when he's next on the forum.

Fao PR Robinson; without wishing to pry, do I assume from your comment that this Roll contains details that wouldn't normally be available from a public Memorial, or other online sources ?. I presume you have researched your father and uncle to some degree, which are presumably WW2 records hence trickier to research, but if you need help please do ask. That said as I'm sure you know old newspapers often give information about Prisoners of War and suchlike.

I say this assuming that Ruardean does have a Memorial of WW1 vintage, but I don't know any details. A quick search online reminds me that Ruardean has a "War Memorial Hall", but I have no idea what plaque or suchlike it may contain.

There are Memorial Plaques within Ruardean Church, but sadly this site doesn't list the names.

There are six CWGC graves at Ruardean Church.

Sadly this list which I found a few years ago when researching Cinderford's Memorial has no reference to Ruardean...

Searching this forum hasn't helped either altho' it has led me to find this excellent post about Ralph Howells of Ruardean, who is on Part 1 of the Roll.
