I am finding the 1841 Census Index quite interesting.
Ccould SKS give me a definition for the words BOX, Piece, and Folio as they were used to head columns in the index?
Thank you, Dewey
an example
Designation for the 1841 census is HO 107.
Then the box number containing the enumeration book is given.
Then the book number, folio number and last the page number.
Littledean (part) is HO 107/364/14/(folio number)/(page number).
Morse ( Ruardean) is HO107/365/10/(folio number)/(page number).
Ruardean Hill is HO107/364/7/(folio number)/(page number).

Slowhands,Thank you very much for the definitions. One more question please. Having never seen the actual documents,I wonder if the list of inhabitants at one address can carry over from one page to another as happens on USA census?
Thank you, Dewey
1841 Census
yes, the entries seem to continue over pages....
The marks that attempt to break household swithin dwellings can also be very confusing !
