Hello Listers of the Forest
Having discovered that my G grandfather was born in Dudley in 1850 it has taken a long time to track his family down to the Forest of Dean. With the kind help of people like slowhands I have pieced together a possible pedigree.
If anyone can add to this, has any connections or disagrees with any of the information below please get in touch.

» 1901 Henry Ellis

» Henry Ellis abt 1872 English Bicknor, Gloucestershire, England Head
» Lydney
» Henry J Ellis abt 1897 Lydney, Gloucestershire, England Son Lydney

Thanks again slowhands, you've opened up another line of research, I don't think that I can link up with this lot...

Henry J is the son of Thomas and Fanny (1881 Census)
Thomas is the son of James and Caroline (IGI)
James is the son of Walter and Hannah (IGI)
and Walter may be the son of William from Longhope (IGI)

Has anyone any connection who can confirm this please?

Thank you for your assistance Joanne, is this from the IGI or Parish records?
» This may be a sibling too:
» John Ellis c. 15 Aug 1813 Coleford, Newland.
Indeed he is as he is in their household in the 1841 census

» Mary Jenkins c. 25 Sep 1791 St. Briavels P= William Jenkins and Mary.

I had discovered Mary Jenkins c15 Jan 1786 in Newland d of Thomas and Sarah - is there evidence that yours is the right one? Its all a bit hit and miss without ages.

Hi Brian, the information I have given you was from the IGI. It is difficult when looking for people when they have been born in Newland. Newland is a village in it's own right, but I have discovered that it also covered a wide number of villages acting like a district I suppose. Confusing!

I found a Mary Ellis, MIL, with a John Dobbs and his family on the 1851 census for Coleford, Newland. It gave her age as 61 so I figured that the christening for 1791 could match with that person and that this info could be right with your family.

» John Hoskins Parker c. 8 Feb 1789 Lydney P= Rachel Parker.
Again I had found a death of John Parker in Lydney 1832, therefore born 1780 I have nothing to say that he is the right one though. Is there a churchyard survey of Lydney anywhere would you know?

Thanks for your help

I am not aware of a churchyard survey, but if there are some people that you believe to buried there, I can go take a look for you. I live in Lydney, and am only about 10 mins walk from the churchyard. I'd be happy to help if I can.

The Mary Ellis with John Dobbs is the right one - Eliza his wife was her daughter.
If it really is no trouble I would be very grateful for a look in the graveyard for the John Parker above. I believe William Ellis died in jul 1849 and his wife Mary's death might also be on the stone (if there is one). If there are ages then I can be certain of their births and parents. Likewise I know that my GG Grandfather George Ellis husband of Jane died in Newland and would probably have been buried in the churchyard. I think John Parker died in 1832 (wife Elizabeth nee Morris?) and if it is not pushing my luck (!) I really would like to know if there is a stone to a Charles Bath died between 1845 and 55. Really any clues would help.
Cheers
Brian
