My great Grandmother was Mary Ann Hannah Meek born 26 Dec 1846, Morse, Ruardean.
Daughter of Richard Meek & Ann Cloudley.
Her known siblings were
William Meek 1842 married Jane Davies
James Meek 1844 married Sophia Trigg
Elizabeth Meek 1849
Charlotte Meek 1853
Alice Meek 1854
Richard Meek 1857 married Elizabeth Marfell
Eliza Meek 1860
Mary Ann married 1st Thomas Hardy Trotter in 1874 and then William Henry Palmer in 1877.
Mary & William came to the Rhondda Valley in Glamorgan very soon after they married.
Any Meek cousins out there ?
Were there any more children for Richard & Ann ?
Regards
David Jones

Hi David
I admit to being a bit confused myself !!
I received information about the Alice (daughter of Richard Meek) marriage to Edward H Jayne from someone with the surname Jayne. She has a family tree on Tribal pages and I have just had a peek, to see that she has Alice married to Edward H Jayne and James Williams. I found the marriage you mentioned on the Parish Records and she was shown as a spinster, but I haven't got the detail of the marriage to Edward Jayne. As it happens I had an email from the person in question today. I will email back and see if she has any more information. I have shown below the Census details I have :
1861 Census Ruardean
Richard Meek 43 Coal Miner Ruardean
Ann 42 East Dean
James 16 Coal Miner Ruardean
Mary Ann 14 Ruardean
Elizabeth 11 Ruardean
Charlotte 8 Ruardean
Alice 6 Ruardean
Richard 4 Ruardean
Eliza 1 Ruardean
In 1881 Alice's father Richard was with his son William and Alice's brother Richard - this latter Richard being the most important one to me as he married Elizabeth Ann Marfell. As you see Alice was not there :

Hi David
Sorry I missed this question dated 16th February amongst the others. Luckily I had an email from Rosie today via a friend, which caused me to look again at this posting.
Yes I have Hannah Meek baptised 22.8.1813 married to Moses Nelmes baptised 17.3.1805 at Hope Mansell 27.3.1830. Moses being the son of William Nelmes 1761/1812 & Susan Annetts 1770.
Before moving on to Moses Nelmes & Hannah Meek's son George. At some stage look at the posting Joseph Wilce 1853 and my response – as Moses Nelmes & Hannah Meek's daughter Charlotte married James Wilce and Joseph Wilce 1853 was their son.
Getting back to George Meek, I agree he married Esther Mansell, but I don't have a date. Son Timothy married Emily Cook with 4 children. Son Frederick married Laura Emily Marfell born 1.4.1873, daughter of Benjamin Marfell & Elizabeth Mason (picture on this web site) Providence Chapel (now a private house) 22.11.1890, I have the certificate if you wanted an email copy.
Frederick Nelmes & Laura nee Marfell had 10 children, the first Frederick 9.5.1892 married Ethel Blanche Marfell 1891 and had 2 children. Another of their offspring was Arnold Dennis Nelmes 1901 who married Edith Lilian Hillman and their daughter I have met several times, last time in October and due to meet again in July.
Apologies again for missing your question

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the information, I had not thought of adding a "S" to Jayne.
It proved it's my great grand aunt Alice Meek
Are you related to this family?

my grandfather was Stephen Jabez Jayne son of Alice and Edward Henry Jayne. He was the only child of this union and he died in 1956 at the age of 64. His date of birth was 2-6-1892. His mother and father were widow and widower. Granny Jayne (Alice) had been Alice Williams and Edward had been married to his cousin Charlotte.Alice had sons the one dying in his early 20s and the other emigrated to S Africa.

Hi Rose,
Thanks for your input, Alice nee Meek was my Great-Grandaunt.
Her children were
James William Williams, who I think died young
Richard (Ainsley) Williams, not sure about the Ainsley but the only Richard I can find on the 1901 census.
Stephen Jabez Jayne

Hi Mike & Rosie
Thanks for all the information. This line was one that I had entered in the first place with some as "connected" people rather than "related" people, following the siblings & parents of spouses. Very often the people entered in this way become related due to the subsequent discovery of other information. Sometimes you have to draw a line though and this it appeared had been a case in point. I had Rosemary Angela Bundy and spouse in my Tree and decided not to proceed further, simply noting against her entry - "two children see XXXX Tribal Pages for details" As my computer updates relationships for me, I now find that Rosie is in fact a 7th cousin once removed, so Hi cousin Rosie !!

hi
I have been speaking to my mum about all the people mentioned, she has a fantastic memory and has filled me in with some details.James William Williams died 9-3-01 aged 20 of TB and is buried in Bishopswood churchyard, next to his mother Alice (Meek) Jayne. His wife Ada died 16-12-01 aged 27 and is buried at Avening. Their son James John Williams died 8-3-19 aged 18 all had TB. Richard Ainsley Williams married Leah and went to South Africa in Oct 1925, they had one son leonard and they had one daughter and 2 sons. We are still in touchwith that daughter Lynette. from the Jayne side there were 4 children the oldest went to Devon and married a Jim Stoneman, Thomas went to America and had 8 children(We are still in contact with some of them). Then Alfred had 5 children and we are in touch with one of them and a grand daughter and fially Edward, but that line came to an end. Sorry if I have rabbited on, but it is all so fascinating(I am new to tracing my family)
kind regards Rosie

Hi Rosie,
Thanks once again for your information, quite a bit there.
As I stated earlier I am the great grandson of Mary Ann Hannah MEEK, the sister of Alice. This makes you my 3rd cousin.
Mary Ann married twice.
11 Jan 1874 Thomas Hardy Trotter witnesses were William & Mary Marfell.
20 May 1877 (William) Henry Palmer witnesses were T Jones & Alice Meek.
I have both these marriage certs plus Mary Ann's birth cert.
Kind Regards
David
