Mission accomplished - Parish Register to Home Computer (General)

It starts with Graham Davison and May Brace going to the Records Office and
photographing pages of the original Parish Registers. A number of these images
are then put onto a CD and mailed to transcribers throughout the world.

The details that are contained in the images of these pages are then put into a
spreadsheet file by the transcribers. The completed files are then sent to
Graham who checks that everything is in order with them.

Eventually, I receive these files and generally check that all is correct with them.
When I have received a number of these files, each spreadsheet file is then
converted into a text delimited file. All the files of the same event type are then
joined together so I end up with three large files containing all the data.

With my text editor program I now set about making sure all the files only
contain ascii characters and remove all quotes and a few other characters as
many characters are used for other purposes in database files and would
conflict.

My next step is to import these three text files back into a spreadsheet for
each event type. ID numbers are assigned to each record and soundex codes added
to the surnames. Finally, I now have this part completed.

The only thing left is to get the data into the MySql database on the server.
This is achieved by converting (again) the files into a csv file format and
importing the data into the sever database.

Mission accomplished - the details of the 1876 baptism record of your
great-grandfather can now be viewed on your computer at home.

In the Miscellaneous section of the download page you can view an image titled
'Parish Register Baptism entries sample.jpg'. Not all Parish Record pages as clear
as this one. This is one of the better pages.

Well done David.

WELL DONE for the huge amount of work that has gone into this. I appreciate it. Living here "down under" I appreciate all the help I can get researching "back home".

Mirrim. Also living in the Colony of Western Australia.
