Census - Place of Residence Hucclecote Gloucester (reply)

Royal Oak Inn is opposite the Police Station (still!) in Hucclecote District of Gloucester. The Roman road was Ermin Street (without the well-meaning but ill-informed version Ermine); a name it still bears as it enters Brockworth Parish. From Barnwood this road is the Hucclecote Road as it travels through Hucclecote District, under the M5 motorway bridge, and into Hucclecote Parish within Tewkesbury Borough. It remains Hucclecote Road until it joins Ermin Street on leaving our parish at Golf Club Lane.

Stella Worgan - Daur - S - 7 - Forest of Dean Yorkley
Minnie Burgham - Servant - S - 11 - Telegraph Messenger - Forest of Dean Yorkley

It is possible that Henry Thos Burley worked at/from the Post Office.

With regard to the description of the dwelling as Roadside, it is possible that the enumerator has described it so because it was unnamed and alongside the main road as opposed to being on the village green or down a lane.

Census - Place of Residence Hucclecote Gloucester (reply)

The Census enumerator has recorded Roadside in Hucclecote to probably mean on the main road from Gloucester going east - Ermin St - the old Roman road.

On the same page is the Royal Oak - site still there , and on the previous page the Police Station
