Parents and siblings of Thomas Rook(e) 1784-1844

I can trace my Rook(e) roots as far back as Thomas Rook(e) born 1784 in the Forest of Dean. He died on March 15th 1844 and was a blacksmith. His wife was Elizabeth Mary Steed(e)/(Sometimes wrongly transcribed as Steele) born in Bristol in 1786-1866. I am wanting to go back further but cannot find a definite link though can find other Rook(e)s in the area and can see popular family names repeated in records. The family always lived around the Coleford and Monmouth areas.
Would appreciate any help on this but I am aware that we are delving back a very long time. He came from an RC family so his parents would have been RC too if that makes it easier.
